Vitamin D for psoriasis

A couple months ago, I started taking 2000 IU of Vitamin D after reading about how it can lower one’s risk of heart disease and certain cancers. I have noticed that my psoriasis is considerably better now. Most of it has cleared, except for some small patches on my elbows and knees. I don’t know if the Vitamin D has caused this or if it’s a coincidence.

Editor’s note: excessive intake of Vitamin D can result in heart problems and calcium deposits. 100-1000 IU (not milligrams) is the recommended safe dose for healthy adults. Consult with your doctor/pharmacist if you have other health issues or are taking other medications or supplements.


  • I too began taking Vitamin D3 (mine were adult gummies) which I happened to buy for my two teenagers to help with immune system and bone strength. The vitamins tasted so good that I ate two a day (dosage on bottle) and after a month it dawned on me that my elbows were completely clear and my nails had almost cleared up. I normally have white under half of my nail and if the nails got better, my skin was worse and vice versa. I’m 50 and have had plaque psoriasis since my college days and nothing has permanently cleared it up – I’ve tried diets and topical meds help somewhat but often would leave me scratching so hard I’d bleed. I have it on my scalp too and my hairdresser asked me today what I was doing differently! What a relief not to have to rub sticky ointments in my hair. The spots on the rest of my body are fading too. I’m about two months in and hoping that it lasts!
